ok..you are using the cd called mainboard or motherboard...drivers...or is it called Restore Disk?

is the pc a self build, store build or Brand name?

you installing from the cd when it boots in the drive, yes? from the menu that probably says mainboard/drivers/utilites ect?

if not, have you right click and 'open' cd rather than just autorun, then look in the audio folder of the drivers folder.
some of the intell boards have multiple drivers for each cd, so you might be faced with a ton of different foulders, each with strings of numbers/letters to indicate the driver for that different speccific mainboards

also..how long have you had the board, how long has it been giving you audio probs, what did it do just befor you lost sound (assuming here, btw) and....
yep, have you tried these things to also test it?

1 plug in another pair of speakers?
2 plug in headphones you KNOW are 100% working?
3 check to make sure the speakers work by plugin them into another audio device and playing, even an old cassette player will make *some* noise from them if they are fine...

reason for sugesting the last ones.....
even the smartest of tehies can pull a Homer and end up re-installing their sound when they actually needed to just turn the volume up *sheepish look*

and theres also the possibility that the audio part of the board has just up and died on you..in which case...depending on where you are (uk or usa ect) just grab yerself a cheapy sound card ^^ i can get them at work for a bout 15 quid for a decent Genius that offers 5.1
